Other cash-back business cards to consider

The following cash-back business cards are either not available via NerdWallet or fall below the four-star requirement to make our top picks. But we think they're still worth considering.
NerdWallet star rating: 3.9
The Bank of America® Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards Mastercard® credit card is a great option for Bank of America Preferred Rewards for Business members, who can get an additional boost (up to 75%) on top of the card's standard rewards rate. Earn 3% cash back in the category of your choice: gas stations & EV charging stations (default), office supply stores, travel, TV/telecom & wireless, computer services or business consulting services, 2% cash back on dining purchases on the first $50,000 in combined choice category/dining purchases, and 1% cash back on all other purchases. Read our full review.
NerdWallet star rating: 5
Among big-name card issuers, the Wells Fargo Signify Business Cash℠ Card is the only no-annual-fee business credit card to offer all business owners unlimited 2% back on all purchases. Combine that high rewards rate with a long intro APR period and a competitive welcome offer — earn a $500 cash rewards bonus when you spend $5,000 in purchases in the first three months — and you have a top-notch card that is unmatched on simplicity and ongoing value. Note: You need to have a Wells Fargo checking or savings account to apply for the Wells Fargo Signify Business Cash℠ Card. Other applicants need to visit a branch location. Read our full review.

Choosing a cash-back business card

Cash-back rewards can take a few different forms. Here’s what to consider when weighing different options:
  • Some offer flat-rate rewards. These cards pay a set percentage back on every purchase, no matter what it is. For instance, the Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card pays 1.5% cash back. If you spent $10,000 per month on that credit card, you’d get $150 back each month.
  • Rewards can have caps. Most flat-rate cards offer unlimited cash back, but The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card limits its 2% rate: Earn 2% cash back on all eligible purchases on up to $50,000 per calendar year, then 1%. Cash back earned is automatically credited to your statement. Terms Apply. So if you spend $100,000 on that card, you’ll earn $1,500 cash back in total — $1,000 on the first $50,000 and then $500 after that.
  • Rewards can be category specific. With bonus category cards, you’ll earn extra-high cash-back rates on certain types of purchases, like gas, office supplies or ad spend. These cards often pay a flat rate on everything else, too. Take the U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Visa® Business Card, which offers the following: Earn 3% cash back on eligible purchases at gas and EV charging stations (transactions of $200 or less)*, office supply stores, cell phone service providers and restaurants (*excludes discount stores/supercenters and wholesale clubs). Earn 1% cash back on all other eligible purchases. Earn 5% cash back on prepaid hotels and car rentals booked directly in the Rewards Center when using your card.
  • Bonus categories can have caps, too. The U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Visa® Business Card is an anomaly; most cards with bonus categories cap how much you can earn. Take the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, for example: Earn 5% cash back on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at office supply stores and on internet, cable and phone services each account anniversary year, Earn 2% cash back on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at gas stations and restaurants each account anniversary year, Earn 1% cash back on all other card purchases with no limit to the amount you can earn. After you’ve spent $25,000, your rewards rate on those bonus categories drops to 1% — the rate you earn on all other spending.
🤓
Nerdy Tip
Combine cash-back cards to maximize your rewards. If your books show consistent spending in a common bonus category like advertising, use a dedicated card for those purchases and a flat-rate option for everything else.

How can your business redeem cash-back rewards?

When you get your business credit card statement, you’ll also get the rewards you earned during that statement period. You typically have a few options for redeeming those cash-back rewards:
  • Getting a cash deposit in your bank account. This transfers whatever you’ve earned directly into a checking account.
  • Getting statement credit. This option applies your rewards to your statement balance, reducing the amount you owe.
  • Redeeming for other rewards through your credit card’s portal. You may have the option to use your cash-back rewards to pay for travel or other special rewards, like gift cards, through your credit card issuer’s website. Sometimes rewards go further when you redeem them this way, though the rules vary by credit card issuer.
Check your card agreement to understand your redemption options. While you often can choose how you want your cash back, that won't always be the case. The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card, for instance, automatically credits cash back to your account.

Are cash-back rewards taxable?

In general, no, credit card rewards aren’t taxed. The IRS treats rewards like discounts — similar to a rebate when you buy a pair of glasses — rather than income. The rules may be different for your business, though. If you deduct purchases made on your card as business expenses, for example, the rewards you earn would reduce the amount of those expenses. That could mean a smaller deduction at tax time.

Methodology

NerdWallet's business credit card team selects the best small-business credit cards without outside input from partners or other business interests. We evaluate business cards based on value and simplicity, weighing fees, sign-up bonuses and reward rates, alongside perks like interest-free periods, statement credits and elite status (for travel cards). Business cards that earn the highest scores deliver the most value to the greatest number of business owners.
Notable changes to our methodology for 2025 include factoring in whether spending on employee cards earns rewards and counts toward the welcome offer requirements. We also now consider what information the card issuer reports to consumer credit bureaus. Learn how NerdWallet rates small-business credit cards.
